Soph Grace

Soph Grace has been playing drums around Sydney's most prestigious venues since 2008.

Since beginning to learn the piano from the age of three, Sophia's love afair with music began. With her passion and intuitive ear Sophia worked through her parent's record collection on the piano, becoming fascinated with the rhythmically driven rock of the 60's and 70's.

At around 14 when her drummer father began to notice her banging out the blues more than caressing the classical on their antique piano, he bought her a pair of drumsticks and taught her how to play a parradiddle. That was it. Soph started a band with three other girls at school and taught herself to play as she went along.

A number of other artists helped teach her to play too. Days on her family's property in the country allowed her countless hours of uninterrupted time to play along to her favourite music. She played along to the classic rockers such as Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, The Doobie Brothers, The Rolling Stones and Janis Joplin. She mixed this up with grunge-worthy faves such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, Silverchair, Nirvana and PJ Harvey. Then she discovered the tastiness of Funk and Soul in Incognito, Parliament and Motown. The result of these teachers at an early stage, as well as her musical background has been a tenderness and intuition in her playing that has been highly sought after by other players ever since.

Soph's entrance into Sydney's live music scene began in 2008 with indie favourites 'The Retreat'. Shortly afterward she joined forces with the dynamic, beautiful and exceptionally talented girls of 'Cissy Strut' (aka Femme Fatale). Ofering audiences a powerhouse sound system consisting of a DJ, live drums and two vocalists, these girls have been blowing away audiences in venues all around Australia for the last fve years with their jaw dropping performances and main room house anthems.

As easily as she rocks out, she can delicately add beautiful percussive colour to the most sensitive of arrangements. This versatility has seen her working with many live and recording artists over the last fve years such as Saloons, Alexx Lloyd, Pinky Beecroft, Jack Carty, Leroy Lee, Georgia Fair, The Martini Club, A Few Friends, Achoo! Bless You, The Myall High Club and many more.

She regularly plays DJ/Drum sound system outfts with DJ's around Sydney at venues such as Ivy, Bungalow 8, The Loft, Fringe Bar, Coogee Bay Hotel, The Burdekin, Hugo's, Opera Bar, The Beresford and various private functions.

Sophia's favourite place to be is behind a drum kit. She brings style, swagger, class and kick-ass to every gig she plays.
